Why Won’t My Vizio TV Connect to Wi-Fi?
Here are the most common reasons why users experience Vizio internet connection issues:
- Poor, low-bandwidth Internet connection
- Communication errors between the router and Vizio TV
- Your Vizio TV’s Wi-Fi adapter is damaged or malfunctioning
- Your router’s security settings are corrupted
Regardless of what’s causing your Vizio internet connection issues, the solutions I’ll discuss in this article will apply to these four scenarios. Try out the following solutions in the order they’re presented:
Solution #1: Check your Wi-Fi Connection
Connect another device to your home’s Wi-Fi network. Is that device connecting to the Internet? If yes, open a web browser on that device. Then, go to www.speedtest.net to check your Wi-Fi network’s download and upload speeds. Certain apps on your Vizio TV require specific Internet download and upload speeds to function correctly. For example:
- Netflix requires a 3 Mbps download speed for streaming SD-quality videos
- 5 Mbps is needed for streaming HD-quality videos
- 25 Mbps is needed for streaming Ultra-HD quality videos
Are the download and upload speeds of your home’s Wi-Fi network fast enough to support these demands? If not, you’ll need to upgrade your Vizio Wi-Fi setup. Call your internet service provider (ISP) for technical support before you get a new setup.
Solution #2: Power Cycle your TV and Router
If your Vizio is not connecting to Wi-Fi, but other devices are, there might be a software glitch in your TV or your Wi-Fi router. Power cycling the two devices can eliminate the glitch causing this connection issue. Here’s how you can power cycle both of these devices:
- On your Vizio TV remote, press the power button & turn off the TV.
- Unplug the TV’s power cord from the outlet.
- Unplug the Wi-Fi router’s power cord.
- Wait for five minutes, then re-plug both the TV and the router.
- Turn the router back on. Turn your Vizio smart TV back on.
Your Vizio smart TV should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network. If an automatic connection doesn’t happen, try to build the connection manually. Through the “Settings” menu on your smart TV, find & connect to the Wi-Fi network, enter the correct password, & connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Solution #3: Enable DHCP on your Vizio Smart TV
DHCP, or “Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol,” is a client-server protocol that automatically assigns specific IP addresses to every device connected to a specific Wi-Fi network. Your Vizio TV has a unique IP address built-in. To activate this IP address & make it available to your home’s Wi-Fi network, you need to enable your TV’s DHCP setting. Here’s how you can do that:
- On your Vizio smart TV remote, press the menu button
- Go to Network
- Select the option titled “Manual setup”
- Select the option titled “DHCP”
If you see that the DHCP setting is already enabled, disable it and re-enable it. By doing so, you’ll be refreshing your Vizio TV’s DHCP settings. Here’s a helpful video guide that further simplifies this process:
Solution #4: Use an Ethernet Cable
If your Vizio TV can’t find Wi-Fi, try to connect it to an ethernet cable. Your Vizio smart TV probably has an ethernet port. Take the ethernet cable out of your Wi-Fi router & plug it directly into your TV. Then, check whether the Internet connection is available. If yes, then you’ve been successful in connecting Vizio TV to Internet.
But it also means that your TV’s wireless adapter is damaged. Without a functioning wireless adapter, your Vizio smart TV won’t be able to receive any signals from your Wi-Fi router. Unfortunately, non-technicians like us can’t fix this crucial component in Vizio smart TVs. You should have your TV checked at a Vizio-certified service center.
Other Common Vizio TV Wi-Fi Problems
Vizio smart TV not connecting to Wi-Fi is a relatively common issue that can be fixed by the solutions mentioned above. But, some Vizio TV owners exactly experience slightly different types of problems. For example, some users have complained that their Vizio TVs only experience connection issues during certain hours of the day.
For such users, I recommend changing Wi-Fi passwords. When multiple devices are connected to their wireless routers, their TVs experience connectivity issues. By changing their passwords, they can establish private Internet connections between their TVs & their home Wi-Fi networks.
Some Vizio TV owners experience connectivity issues because their TVs’ software isn’t up-to-date. If your Vizio TV won’t connect to Wi-Fi, you need to check whether its operating software is up to date. Here’s how you can check for the latest Vizio TV OS updates:
- Turn on your TV
- Press the “Menu” button on your remote
- Select “System”.
- Click “Check for Updates”
Your TV will now automatically search for the newest firmware & software updates. If there are any available updates, your TV will install them for you.
Vizio Smart TV Keeps Disconnecting from Wi-Fi
Tried all these solutions & your Vizio smart TV still disconnects from your home’s Wi-Fi network. Then, you should consider factory resetting your TV. Bear in mind: this is the last resort you should consider only when all other solutions fail. That’s because factory resetting your TV will revert it to its factory default settings.
Even all your downloaded apps on the TV will be deleted. So, take the following steps with great precaution:
- On your Vizio remote, press & hold the Menu button
- Select “System”
- Select the option titled “Reset & Admin”
- Select the option titled “Reset TV to Factory Settings”
Your Vizio TV is now completely reset. Perform the initial setup & then try connecting the TV to your home’s Wi-Fi network. Here’s the “remote-free” version of factory resetting a Vizio TV. If you don’t have your remote with you, check out this process:
